Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to brighten your clients’ day by showing them how much they mean to you.  Let them know they are important and cared for by doing something special for them today.

1. Be Their Valentine!
Write a Valentine’s Day card for your clients.  A Valentine’s Day card may be a small thing, but it can go a long way.
No need to be romantic!  Express how much you’ve enjoyed working with your clients and what you love best about caring for them.  This can take the form of a store-bought or handmade card, or even a letter written on clean or decorated paper.  You can print a free Valentine's Day e-card template here.

2. Read Letters
If your clients have lost a significant other, offer to read old letters from their spouse.  If they don’t have letters, just reminisce with them for a few minutes about how they fell in love and their favorite memories.  You can also read about some of the great romances in history.

3. Make Decorations
Take a few minutes to make a few Valentine-themed decorations to brighten their home.  They may not be capable of hanging things, so offer to hang them as well.  Here are some decoration ideas that require no special skills.

4. Bring Them Sweet Treats
You don’t have to go above and beyond for this, but bringing your clients a few Valentine's Day-themed treats, or working on them together, will brighten their day and remind them that they have people who care for them.  Think JELL-O!
Just make sure you observe all dietary restrictions and precautions!

5. Look at Photos Together
Ask your clients if they would like to take a walk through old photo albums and tell you about their loves and loved ones from days gone by.  Show you care by actively listening to them and asking questions about the people and events that meant so much to them.  Ask politely about sweet memories from the past.

6. Watch and Discuss This Video
Below is a short clip about Valentine's Day.  Watch it together and use the activity as an opportunity to engage in conversation about it.  Clients might even share with you some charming stories from down memory lane.

7. Have a Red Day
Show your Valentine's Day spirit!  Dress in red and see if your clients would want to be dressed in red.

8. Ask if They Would Like to Invite a Friend or Neighbor Over
This third person might appreciate being included as you might make their day special, too.  They can watch the movie, help eat candy/cookies, etc.  Maybe they might share a cup or tea or coffee.

9. Go to the Mall
If transportation is not a hassle, go to the mall in your area and have a treat, people watch, and admire the shop displays.  Take along any mobility assistance equipment that might come in handy, just in case.

10. Get Educated
Show them you cared enough about them to learn more about how to care for them.  Take your skills to the next level by completing your annual in-service hours!  Aides with login credentials for Relias can earn in-service hours online by clicking here.
