Presidents’ Day, officially Washington’s Birthday, is a U.S. holiday (third Monday in February) popularly recognized as honoring George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The day is sometimes understood as a celebration of the birthdays and lives of all U.S. presidents. This year, as we celebrate Presidents’ Day, it’s good for us to take a moment for a quick shout-out to five former presidents who share one very important contribution... each one signed legislation into law that enabled many of our patients to retire with dignity who otherwise would not have had the financial means or supports to do so.
While each of these five Presidents had his critics and supporters, it's important to step back every once in a while to remember achievements that go beyond politics. No matter how popular, unpopular, or controversial the legislation was at the time, each continues to help Americans prepare for the life they want as they get older.
